Welcome Back!

This promises to be an exciting year for anthropology at UNO.

We are still recovering, of course, from the floods of 2005.  As you will see, our course listings are still somewhat reduced.  However, we are now part of UNO's School of Urban Planning and Regional Studies.  Together with the Departments of Geography and Planning and Urban Studies, we will build new curricula and projects over the coming year that will provide our students with many opportunities, including new courses, research projects, and internships.  We can especially expect our graduate programs to grow in strength and quality.

Thanks to some outside grants, it looks like we may soon be able to welcome an archaeologist into our department!  This person's primary role will be that of regional archaeologist, focused on historical research in the context of recovery from the floods, but the archaeologist will teach a few courses and provide important research experience opportunities for our students.  Stay tuned for more information coming soon!

We are still determined to provide you with as wide a variety of interesting, fun, and truly odd courses as we can. We also committed to working closely with you to achieve your goals at UNO and to help you prepare for future careers or for graduate school.

Please be sure to take an occasional look at the graduation check sheet located on our degree requirements page.  There have been some changes made that will make life quite a bit simpler for our majors.

I have been working with the computer center to keep an updated email list of majors.  However, we have another way of staying in touch that involves more discussion.  We have a Yahoo group (established right after Katrina) that we use to facilitate discussion among majors and others interested in anthropology and, in the event of an emergency, it can be used to stay in touch. You can join by visiting http://groups.yahoo.com/group/unoanthro/ or by sending a blank email to unoanthro-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. Please sign up!

Please feel free to drop in on any of the anthropology faculty. Bring us your questions or just come by to say hello. Send us an email or give us a call. Let us know you are back!
