Welcome Back!
Majoring in anthropology is a great choice!
Our department is rapidly becoming a significant resource for
people in the Greater New Orleans region interested in cultural
preservation, change and development. Our faculty and students
are involved in research projects that include Mardi Gras
Indians, culinary cultures, hurricane and disaster recovery,
neighborhood development, etc. We have been cooperating with the
other departments in the School of Urban
Planning and Regional Studies
to develop and expand our applied urban anthropology graduate degree.
We expect to see new internship opportunities arise in the coming year,
as well as many interesting post-graduate work possibilities.
And, of course, we are still devoted to putting our society in a
comparative context, drawing on our collective research experiences on
four continents to work with students in International Studies.
We
have new offices and more space than ever before! Come visit us
in Milneburg Hall (the former "Old Business"), on the 3rd floor.
We still have a Yahoo group (established right after Katrina)
that we use to facilitate discussion among majors and others interested in
anthropology and, in the event of an emergency, it can be used to stay in touch.
You can join by visiting
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/unoanthro/ or by sending a blank email to
unoanthro-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. Please sign up!
Please feel free to drop in on any of the anthropology faculty. Bring us your
questions or just come by to say hello. Send us an email or give us a call.
